9 Days

In 9 days I'll be on a plane to Vegas for the poker blogger Winter Gathering. Can't say that I've done much poker blogging lately. I haven't really been playing much poker at all for that matter.

Poker in 2008 ran pretty badly for me. I long for the days of Party Poker. Back then, the money just poured in, and bankroll management wasn't a concern when it was easy to beat games at any level you were comfortable playing in.

These days, easy games are harder to come by. This, mixed with an air of poker malaise hovering over me, has left me wanting. Wanting what? I don't know. The action doesn't excite me anymore. I miss live games. I miss trying to focus, instead of donking around in $50 SNGs, just to pass the time. I guess it's unfair to say 2008 ran badly for me, it's more like I ran badly for 2008.

All that aside, I'm exited about the gathering. I had a blast at Al's Bash this summer, and can't wait to see the blogger folks again, drink some booze, and play some live cards.

Some goals for the 2008 Gathering -

1. Play the mixed game at the IP that CK keeps talking about.

2. Go to the Pinball Hall of Fame. There was talk at Al's Bash of a possibility of a pinball tourney. I plan on going either way.

3. Win the WPBT. I final tabled 2 years ago, and busted early last year. 2 years ago when I went to the gathering I didn't know anyone. I was focused on one thing. Get to the final table because it would help me meet some of these people easier. Since then, I always donk it up ridiculously at any live blogger game or tourney. No more. I'm playing for keeps this year.

4. Play RoShamBo with Iggy. I beat him in 2006. I declined to play him last year and feel like a chump for it. So, focus while playing cards, donk it up in RoShamBo. That is this years motto for me.

5. For G-d's sake, do not play ANY video poker. Or slots. Especially slots. I have a serious machine leak. This one is going to be hard to do, because I love me some video poker. I think I should bring a small but separate machine roll. Notice how I went from not playing ANY to bringing a small separate roll. Yeah, I've got a problem. Please smack me if you see me playing a machine. For more than 25 cents max credits. Unless I've run up over a grand. Don't believe me when I say I'm just running to the bathroom, I'm sneaking off to the machines.

6. Laugh at FFF when she loses her bet.

See ya'll soon.

"Wanting what?"

To Learn to play?

Oh and just so you know, knowing that you play, the PHoF is a must for you IMHO. Pretty incredible stuff in there. I was particularily interested in the games that never made it to an area i had lived in as a kid.

Enjoy the trip, take lots of notes and share them here for those of us slobs that are no-showing.

:)

BWoP:

It appears that we have some things in common on this list. Can't wait to catch up again.

Looks like you should have some incredible company at the PHoF, should you choose to make it happen.

I've never met Shrike/Pirate Lawyer in person, but I sure would like to.

Not sure if you know it our not, but F-Train is CK's significant other, and despite getting way too little real quality time to truly get to know him and call him a personal friend, my first impression and knowledge of CK's judge of character, both tell me he's one hell of a guy.

As it stands right now........ I'm jealous as hell that I can't head down for some time with this group and enjoy the PHoF with each of you. I hope you all hook up and make it happen.

I can't wait, especially for #2. I have already made a list of pinball games I must play. I suggest an early Friday caravan to the museum ...

VinNay:

Looking forward to seeing you again too CK, and to meet you Pirate. Bam - you will be missed, but Eh Vegas can't be too far off.

Waffles - I think that cucumber is too far up your ass, its making you grumpy again.
