Running Good
I took down the MATH last night. See link below.
Thanks to Hoy for hosting. He hasn't updated the MATH moneyleaders board yet, but I think this takes me into second place. Had Hoy not managed second place last night, I would have taken over first on the moneyboard.
For the past few weeks I have really been evaluating my tournament game and trying to plug holes and get more patient. Winning the MATH and getting deep in some other tourneys has done alot for my confidence in my game, which is nice, because next Friday I head out to vegas for 10 days for the WSOP. I'm not sure which events I will play in, because there are some nice events being run at Bellagio and Venitian at the same time, but it is likley I will at least play in the $1500 NL on Sat the 16th or the $3000 NL on Sun the 17th. My schedule is open after that. I hope to hook up for some beers with some other bloggers while out there.
Back to the MATH. I feel I played a very solid game, and almost never got my money in bad. There were a few times I think I got pushed off a pot when I think I had a better hand, but I seemed to win all of my races and only needed to suckout once. Unfortunatley for Hoy, my suckout came on the second last hand when we were heads up giving me a huge chiplead and essentially the game.
Ten minutes in I picked up my first reasonable hand.

Garth didn't pay me off as much as I hoped he would, but I scooped his continuation bet for a T780 pot. A little while later, I accidentally called a raise when I meant to fold and hit two pair.

I folded some small pocket pairs from early position and didn't really play a hand for 15 min or so. I picked up Qd10d and raised from early postion and was reraised by pushmonkey72 and had to fold. I knew I shouldn't have raised with that garbage and got what I deserved. But, it did remind me to be more patient and less stupid.
This next hand is interesting. Not sure if I played it right or not.

I'm still not sure if I should have called there, but I'm also pretty sure Garth should have checked it down instead of firing on the end.
In a hand a short while later with KK I called an all in on a flop of 6c 7s 4c. I feared the set, but his 55 did not improve. Maybe I just can't get away from big pocket pairs.
I went card dead for a half hour until the break and ended with around T6700. First hand after the Break I picked up QQ against xkm1245's JJ. It all went in preflop and I held up and chipped up to T8500.
55 minutes later I was down to T4000. I had no cards for almost an hour. I think I played 3 or 4 hands and was blinded away. I got my money in good against Zeem with AJs vs his KQo and got back up to T8500 just in time for the next break.
I picked up KK in late position again and doubled up against cmitch's AK to around T12500. I spent the next 45 min fluctuating between 9K and 15K trying to attack the middle stacks as we approached the final table. I went on a run of back-to back-to back 10-10, QQ, JJ and I arrived at the final table with around 20K and was in the middle of the pack.
Once I was up a little bit and in second place I got really agrressive with the table, raising often and for the most part showing down winners when I needed to. I had to fold to some re-raises (primarily from Hoy) once in a while, but I had been doing the same to him too. Down to five players Hoy and I put lots of pressure on the smaller stacks and eventually got heads up. Unfortunatly for me, Hoy was leading 84K to 68K.

Things I did right -
I did a good job of changing gears at the right times.
I played mostly from position.
I was patient and usually ahead going into flops.
Made some good disiplined laydowns to raises and re-raises.
Things I need to work on -
Can I get away from AA or KK post flop?
Be more patient heads up, don't be satisfied with second place.
